DAB Motors introduces its pilot gearless electric motorcycle
DAB Motors releases its inaugural production model, the DAB 1α, a gearless electric motorcycle with a recyclable battery and buttons and controls inspired by game-console controllers and video games from the 2000s. The DAB 1α is designed, engineered, and crafted in France, with a powertrain that features a fully repairable, dismountable, and recyclable battery. Even with these features, the electric motorcycle only weighs around 125 kilograms, making it lightweight and agile enough for everyday means of transport for city commutes.

DAB 1α with blue nitro button from video games
DAB Motors designs its electric motorcycle, the DAB 1α, by stripping off any gears or clutch, making it possible to be charged anywhere using a simple home socket or Type 2 charging point, and installing components that allow it to reach a top speed of 130 km/h.
A glance at the buttons and controls reveals their inspiration from the retro world of gaming, drawing design cues from game-console controllers and the 2000 game Need for Speed through the blue Nitro button. With just one click, the DAB 1α boosts the speed and thrill of the gearless electric motorcycle for the riders’ sake.
A nod to bicycle motocross shows up too with the back pegs to support passengers when they hop on the gearless electric motorcycle for a ride. The DAB 1α highlights design around the ride as well, from the numbered golden plate on the handlebar, a sign that DAB Motors is only producing 400 units of the model, to the handmade seat crafted with Alcantara, the adjustable golden suspensions developed in collaboration with Paioli, and the forged carbon parts made from upcycled Airbus carbon fiber.

As soon as the riders are all geared up, they can find a 2.8-inch LCD display screen that flashes the ride’s information to them, as well as a 3.4-liter glove compartment for storage and an optional wireless charger in collaboration with Quadlock. The braking system showcases calipers provided by the industry leader Brembo, coupled with an ABS braking system derived from Peugeot Motocycles and DAB Motors’s brake disks.
DAB Motors entered production of its first electric motorcycle following an acquisition by Peugeot Motocycles in 2023, and for the first batch of 400 units, the DAB 1α is available in W-White or MGT-Grey. The gearless electric motorcycle is now available for reservations.
