TIMM Architecture sculpts a House Around the Tree

House Around the Tree by TIMM Architecture, situated in Okrokana near Tbilisi, Georgia, embodies a contemporary and minimalist design that fosters a harmonious connection between indoors and outdoors. The architectural concept revolves around the presence of a tree, symbolizing a space without boundaries. The residence, strategically adapted to the sloped terrain, spans three levels, each designed to intensify the relationship with nature.

The lower level, housing the entrance and garage, serves as a base for a plateau-like deck hosting the living spaces, kitchen, lounge, gardens, and swimming pool. Exposed concrete elements define the open-plan living zone, enhanced by ample natural light and shades. The design features steel finishes and slender ‘cross-shape’ steel pillars, introducing refined contrast to the neutral palette.

Exposed concrete, steel, and timber define the design

The design team avoids a strong impact on the land by thoughtfully arranging the residence’s volume in non-aligned blocks. The angular layout, punctuated by courtyards and verandas, breaks the formal rigidity, emphasizing the harmonious interplay between architecture and landscape. A central staircase, wrapped around an indoor tree, connects two levels and introduces ample daylight through a large skylight.

The upper floor, seemingly floating, is wrapped in vertical wooden brise-soleils that provide sun protection and ventilation while establishing a connection with nature. The louvers, fully openable, contribute to the sense of lightness and continuity with the surroundings.
