Functional LEGO radio in retro style

On June 1st, 2024, LEGO is releasing its functional Retro Radio, reviving the bygone days of knobs and frequencies on old-school music players. Users are expected to receive 906 pieces, so they can build their own LEGO Retro Radio. Once assembled, they can play music on it using their smartphone. Bluetooth or wireless connectivity may not be a current function, as users have to open the lid behind the player and insert their smartphone with the music already playing, or use voice commands to change or play new tracks.

This may be confirmed come soon when LEGO updates viewers on the full specs and technical details of the Retro Radio. In the meantime, a dash of modern flair emerges from the pastel blue-green color of some of the radio’s parts, blending well with the spurt of brown and white hues that complete the palette scheme of the music player. To bring back the retro radio look, LEGO even includes an extendable antenna with its own compartment at the rear, allowing users to stash it when desired in a snap.

Rotating knobs and sliding red bar for the frequency

The front of the LEGO Retro Radio has two black knobs between the frequency bar, both of which can be rotated. The one on the left is used to switch the radio ‘on and off’, while the one on the right changes the channel, with the red bar sliding through the frequencies. There’s a hole atop the grille on the left side of the Retro Radio to let the sounds from the smartphone out. The LEGO label is beside the speaker, sealing the brand’s name onto the radio.

As of publishing the story, the LEGO Retro Radio is expected to arrive on June 1st, 2024, priced at 99.99 USD. Before this design, Mehdi Rustamov, aka dimexart, shared his very own LEGO vintage radio on the Ideas LEGO platform. It has the same concept as the Retro Radio and can also play any music using a smartphone and its voice assistant. Even its volume knobs and keypads are functional, just like the Retro Radio. This vintage radio model is made up of 1,130 LEGO pieces. At first, the creator made it for display, but soon modified the rear part so users could open it and place their smartphone inside.
