Immersive, experiential spheres take shape through the union of digital art and concept car with AUDI and Andrés Reisinger at Design Miami/ 2022. The collaboration sees the AUDI Grandsphere concept take to the stage at the fair, following its public display at Milan Design Week the same year. The Argentine digital artist and designer sources the car’s freedom of time to form a digital work of art illuminated in LED at the exhibition.

AUDI grandsphere concept car continues global tour

The AUDI Grandsphere conceptualizes the brand’s vision for premium mobility of the future, notably where new experiences are made possible thanks to the enhancement of driverless and digital technology. As driving becomes automated and users have more freedom, the interior of the luxury sedan manifests a spacious realm of new experiences, free of steering wheels, pedals and other instruments. The interior architecture is super clean, devoid of a screen for AUDI’s first time ever. The cabin is perceived as a living space.

Andrés Reisinger drives personal sphere to higher level

Digital artist and designer Andrés Reisinger finds and personifies the personal sphere of the concept car in his artwork. The characteristics – digital, connected and personal – are shared between the vehicle and art. Inspiration was sourced by the changing of spaces as we move, as well as the new experiences this leads to. The three different seating positions inside the car lends to chapters within the 2-minute piece.

‘The idea of the digital artwork took inspiration from the Grandsphere concept. The car was the starting point for the collaboration but, otherwise, there were no limitations on what I could create,’ explains Andrés Reisinger to designboom. ‘As an artist, I try to promote another way living and a higher way of experiencing the world. The evolution of mobility offers this chance. It propelled me to create a very beautiful, compelling piece that signals the benefits of this change.’

The two minute-long video imagines a seemingly surreal environment that transverses realism and fictional.

The scene, bathed in the artist’s renowned warm pink hues, starts with the subtle, shimmering movement of water and its reflections on a circular mirror. The image immediately disorientates the perspective of space, blurring the boundaries between inside and out – just like in the concept car. The digital artwork progresses into a seemingly surreal environment that transverses realism and fictional. Reisinger’s architecture adheres to the general laws of physics, for example, but offers nuances and differences in his universe to shift the viewer’s perception.

‘People do not have to accept what I have created or what AUDI is realizing with autonomous driving, but the artwork shows a new perspective on familiar things. The normal can be different; a new experience can be understood. Viewers can find new places within my artwork, be inspired, and open doors for a better life,’ continues the artist.

Elements like water, air and movement provide the undercurrent in the architectural and colorful immersive, experiential world that the Reisinger creates. As the seat of the concept – teleported from the car into the artwork – shifts in position, the landscape continuously evolves. It draws onlookers into new discoveries, just like how AUDI’s mobility experience will change as we near full autonomy. Small details of life are highlighted, enriching normality, and recognizing values of experiences. In a similar positive light as meditation, the artwork captures the car’s emphasis on the journey and not the end result.

‘It is so easy to be negative but hard to be positive. By showing how many elements in life are connected, we – as creators – can have a profound effect. Fast culture adds to the stress. The artwork, together with the concept car, aims to shift perception and ask people to look at mobility from a different standpoint. Once the conscious has been expanded, it will never go back. Passengers’ experiences will be taken to a higher level where it is all about the journey. The artwork aims to help people register this little by little,’ adds the Argentine.

AUDI’s stand at Design Miami/ blends the digital and physical. The Grandsphere concept transforms the interior architecture into digital surfaces and touchpoints for passengers. Reisigner takes this idea to a higher, more beautiful level in his artwork. He understands digital and physical like the human body and spirit. The two are most rich in combination. The scenes in his artwork blurs the different dimensions, enabling possible passengers to be immersed into a new reality, and lacing the physical with digital and vice-versa. He prompts a positive, lasting response from onlookers.

‘We cannot change people’s perspective instantly. Some might not change their idea of mobility at all. However, I hope this artwork inspires people to pass this new experience on and slowly but surely help the future,’ concludes Andrés Reisinger to designboom.
