MAS Design crafts marbled and lacquered furniture from onyx, iron and brass at EDIT napoli

MAS Design’s marbled tables at EDIT Napoli

Combining onyx, iron, brass, oak, and glass to create cupboards, tables, and sideboards sits at the design ethos of Maria Adele Savioli’s MAS Design. At EDIT Napoli 2023, a three-day design fair running between October 6th and 8th, these marbled and colored furniture pieces exhibit MAS Design’s penchant for playing with materials and color schemes. In its ONICE 45 collection, marbled onyx in a rippling technicolor design becomes tables with painted iron legs. The shades of the tabletops vary and contrast with the monochromatic legs.

The subtle color scheme of ONICE 45 may depart as viewers see the LOSANGHE series of cupboards. In this series, triangular cuts of colored and transparent glass with brass details encase the sideboards in low-level and tall forms, and the user finds a container with fixed shelves made of painted iron sheets when they open the furniture. Painted iron makes up the sideboards’ coffee table sibling whose colored glass top and geometric shape are rooted in the series’ visual design.

Metal sheets framed with painted iron or onyx

MAS Design, a brand of handcrafted furniture under the creative direction of architect and designer Maria Adele Savioli, creates what it calls mini pieces of architecture that form a part of spaces as furnishings. In fact, its PAOLO series transforms what may be considered typical materials found in architecture into sideboards. Metal sheets framed with painted iron or onyx are coupled with matt-lacquered fiberboard and brass coverings. Inside the sideboards, the modular shelves let the owner devise a design that fits their spacing needs.

PAOLO may as well be the sibling of XX with its foldable table and material made with brass and iron. The varnished iron gives the table an obvious gleam while the hint of brass on the side makes it stand out in a well-lit space. The use of wood shows up again in TASCA as oak with iron becomes molded into a low-height cabinet that may double as a TV stand. A dedicated space for magazines and stacks of paper springs up on the sides to offer extra storage while still concealing it from plain sight. These collections – apart from PAOLO, XX, and TASCA – will remain on display at EDIT Napoli 2023 until October 8th, 2023.
