The UNESCO-listed city of Český Krumlov in Czechia welcomes Casarosa, a series of five unique boutique apartments tucked inside a historical townhouse. Renovated by local practice Denisa Strmiskova Studio, each unit offers an alternative to typical accommodations in the busy city, sporting a daylit interior with a mix of pastel-hued décor, steel elements, and exposed wall coverings. ‘The goal was to maintain spaciousness in each apartment while respecting the original layout of the house and maintaining the cohesive feel of the building,’ shares the design team.

five carefully restored flats emphasizing simplicity and shapes

The first ground floor apartment of Casarosa is ideal for individuals or couples, while a larger one offers views of a quiet street, capturing the local atmosphere. The first floor features an additional cozy unit and a larger one with a walk-through bathroom separating the living and quiet areas. On this floor, the team at Denisa Strmiskova Studio has retained the original tiled stove. Lastly, the top floor houses the most spacious apartment, with three rooms and three bathrooms, centered around a loft-style common area with beautiful views of the holy mountain Křížová hora and the city’s rooftops. ‘The apartments are furnished to a high standard, with attention to different layouts, details, and views. The design emphasizes simplicity, focusing on the materials and shapes of the furniture,’ continues the studio.

Denisa Strmiskova Studio opts for vintage and pastel aesthetics

During renovation, the architects discovered interesting layers of original wall coverings, which were then carefully restored, emphasizing the pastel shades chosen for the interior color palette. The majority of the furniture and lighting are vintage, sourced from various antiques and bazaars, including pieces like the Mito chair by Carlo Bartoli for Tisettanta (1970), silver chairs by Ycami Italia (1980), and the iconic Tulip table and chairs. Denisa Strmiskova complemented the vintage pieces with neutral seating, stainless steel kitchen units, and silver and glass accessories. All Casarosa apartments share this design approach. The interior also features artworks, which the owners plan to rotate in the future. The current exhibition by Eugenio Percossi, inspired by the neighboring Rose Garden, focuses on the theme of roses, exploring their beauty and decay.
