inside the cozy bunker by wanna in madrid
Design studio WANNA unveils the Cozy Bunker for Formica Group, a sheltered fortification that combines unsual concepts: well-being and survival. Captured by architectural photographer Javier de Paz García, the pink-hued space responds to the growing interest in bunkers and their construction, in preparation for any potential, and imminent, global collapse. In light of that, WANNA asked itself: What response could interior design provide in emergency living spaces? The answer is the reinterpretation of a subterranean refuge for extreme situations as a hiding place to disconnect, while drawing on brutalist architecture.

javier de paz garcía captures the design’s conceptual duality
The brutalist Cozy Bunker by WANNA (see more here) proposes a clear dialogue between opposites. On the one hand, the solid construction of the access corridor, with its stony appearance, conveys security and inaccessibility. On the other hand, the enveloping minimalism and chromatic warmth of the shelter’s interior evoke relaxation and hope, providing a pleasant experience to help abstract from what is happening outside. This concept of duality comes to life through the lens of Javier de Paz Garcia.

The project, entirely built with high-pressure laminates from Formica, metallic laminates from HOMAPAL, and innovative surfaces from FENIX, offers great versatility of these materials in terms of design, geometries, and volumes, as well as their richness of colors and finishes. For the interior design, WANNA starts from principles such as playing with heights, taking advantage of the four and a half meters of space, structural solidity, indirect light, and volumetrics. Cozy Bunker is on show at the 59th edition of Casa Decor in Madrid.
